Now Hiring a Strategic Communications Director

The BTS Center, a faith-based organization operating at the intersection of spiritual leadership and climate change, seeks a Strategic Communications Director who will work closely with the Executive Director, Associate Director, Operations Manager, and Program Team to oversee external communications and media relations, to promote programs, to draw constituents into deeper relationship, to direct the communication of research findings, and to ensure consistency of messaging that aligns with the organization’s mission, vision, and core values.
 
Growing from the deep roots of the former Bangor Theological Seminary, today The BTS Center is a 501(c)(3) private operating foundation in Portland, Maine, offering theologically grounded programs of spiritual and vocational formation, in service to its mission: to catalyze spiritual imagination with enduring wisdom for transformative faith leadership. Inspired by the vision of human hearts renewed, justice established, and creation restored, The BTS Center offers a wide array of programs like workshops and retreats, learning communities, reading groups, public conversations and rituals, and projects of applied research, all in an effort to cultivate and nurture spiritual leadership for a climate-changed world.

Salary & Benefits: This is a full-time, exempt position, offering competitive compensation and benefits:

  • Salary: $75,000 – $80,000, commensurate with experience

Collaboration & Accountability: The Strategic Communications Director works collaboratively with and under the supervision of the Executive Director, in close collaboration with a small Communications Team that includes a part-time Staff Writer, a part-time website manager, and a contracted digital media specialist.

Work Space: The position will be oriented toward The BTS Center’s collaborative office space located on India Street in Portland, Maine, with flexibility for a hybrid office / at-home work balance.

Climate Conscious Chaplaincy Initiative Intern

Location: Remote

Duration: Internship opportunities are available for summer, fall and/or winter terms

Hours: Part-time, flexible hours, approximately 8-10 hours per week
 
About The BTS Center’s Climate Conscious Chaplaincy Initiative:
The BTS Center offers programs, an emerging network, and a growing collection of resources for chaplains and spiritual care providers serving in a variety of settings who recognize that the effects of the climate crisis are increasingly felt by all the Earth’s peoples. Those who are called to offer spiritual care will require particular
perceptions, postures, and practices to minister effectively and compassionately in a changed world. These programs address the growing necessity for responsive, skilled, compassionate spiritual care to focus on the short- and long-term needs of those who are, and will be, affected by the reality of conditions to which we must adapt, and of the changed landscape of which we must make sense.

Position Overview: The BTS Center is seeking a Climate Conscious Chaplaincy Intern to play a vital role in providing support to this initiative for this evolving aspect of spiritual care. Individuals from historically marginalized or underrepresented
groups are encouraged to apply.
 
Qualifications:
  • Actively pursuing graduate-level education in chaplaincy, or pastoral/spiritual care
  • Interest in climate change, social justice, and community building
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Eagerness to learn new skills and engage with complex topics
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
Compensation: Negotiable, depending on field education / work study compensation available from home institution / seminary.

Supervision: The Climate Conscious Chaplaincy Initiative Intern works collaboratively with and under the supervision of the Chaplaincy Initiative Coordinator, the Rev. Alison Cornish.
