Ownership, Community, and Hospitality

A workshop to foster robust and creative responses to a climate-changed world

As we awake to and adjust to the realities of our climate-changed world, we must wrestle with the implications of what impacts climate change is having and will have on our home locations. At the same time, migration from areas already most affected is increasing, and the combination of these factors and events is asking us to reconsider our understanding of ownership, community, and hospitality.

This workshop offers an opportunity to lead participants in asking questions of ownership, community, and hospitality in our climate-changed world. Through a series of exercises involving podcasts and video presentations, participants will probe their own assumptions and also be invited into new, creative, and enlivening visions for what actions can be taken in response to the realities of climate change.

Developed by Peterson Toscano, Program Consultant at The BTS Center, this workshop includes two podcasts and a video presentation as well as a facilitator’s guide with exercises and questions to enhance engagement and learning.

We offer this detailed guide for facilitators to use in leading the workshop for their groups and communities. The guide includes learning goals and a detailed outline and can be adapted as needed. It is intended for use in congregational and/or community settings.
