I invite you to partner with The BTS Center in supporting our friends in Minnesota as they address the urgent and immediate needs of those who’ve been terrorized by ICE and CBP agents.
We extend this invitation with deep appreciation and respect for Rev. Karen Hutt, an indispensable member of The BTS Center’s Chaplaincy Advisory Group. To our Climate Conscious Chaplaincy Initiative, Karen has given her time, wisdom, and courage. For almost two months, Karen has given that and much more to her south Minneapolis community.
On January 7, Renée Nicole Good was murdered in her vehicle by ICE agents. Karen has shared that this act of violence occurred in close proximity to her home. That neighborhood has since become a node of community defense and healing. Karen herself led Renée’s funeral service.
ICE has become stealthier and more discrete in these past few weeks — in Minnesota, in Maine, and in other states they’ve terrorized. Families in Minnesota are newly facing eviction. The needs that Karen’s community faces are profound.
If you’ve benefited from the work of The BTS Center’s Chaplaincy Initiative or other areas of our programming, please consider a donation to Immigration Rapid Response Network, an organization that Karen recommends for their immediate and life-changing work. Your gift will provide a tangible response to urgent basic needs like rental assistance, food, and health care, as well as urgent legal services like legal defense, due process support, and constitutional rights protection.
You can make your donation at this link, and 100% of all gifts will be directed to the Immigration Rapid Response Network’s fund. Or if you’d prefer, you can donate directly to IRRN at this link.
With gratitude and in solidarity,
Rev. Dr. Allen-Ewing Merrill
Executive Director, The BTS Center
