Ophelia Hu Kinney (she/her) is the child of immigrants. She lives in Scarborough, Maine, with her wife and daughter. Her family of origin strictly adheres to disorganized religion, but she took a more scandalous route of Christian curiosity.
Prior to joining The BTS Center’s staff, Ophelia was a member of The BTS Center’s Board of Trustees from January 2024 until August 2025 and a grateful participant of its community and programs. Most recently, she served as Director of Communications for Reconciling Ministries Network, an organization working for the full participation of LGBTQ+ people in the life and leadership of The United Methodist Church.
One throughline of Ophelia’s work and writing is the provocation of spiritual imagination. Thus, she’s glad to call HopeGateWay (Portland, ME) her people and place of worship. Ophelia has served on the boards of the Equality Community Center and the Chinese and American Friendship Association of Maine. She’s a graduate of Amherst College and the Yale School of Management.
